THE GENNY | RETAIL
When The Craftsbury General Store prepared to reopen its second location in Albany, Vermont, the moment signified more than just a business expansion—it marked the evolution of a beloved Vermont institution.
With deep roots in the Craftsbury community, the store has long been known for its role as a local hub, offering high-quality goods while supporting regional farmers, artisans, and producers. However, the reopening of a second location in Albany presented an opportunity to rename, refine, and strengthen the brand, ensuring it resonated with both longtime patrons and a new generation of customers.
The challenge was to develop a cohesive identity that honored The Craftsbury General Store’s rich history while providing a framework for future growth in Albany. A central part of this brand evolution was the introduction of a dynamic visual system that maintained unity across both locations while celebrating the distinct character of each store. Color became a strategic identifier—each store was given a unique color cue that seamlessly connected back to the overarching brand, reinforcing both individuality and community ties. By balancing nostalgia with modern relevance, we crafted a brand system that respects tradition while embracing innovation, ensuring The Genny continues to thrive as an essential part of small-town Vermont life.
Craftsbury,
Vermont
Purchased and revitalized in 2012, the original general store—dating back to before the Civil War—has become more than just a convenience stop. It’s the heart of the town, where locals gather to catch up, share news, and enjoy a meal on the porch’s rocking chairs. Whether grabbing breakfast, lunch, or simply groceries, familiar faces are always bound to appear, making it a true community hub.
Albany,
Vermont
After a fire forced the closure of the 100-year-old general store in 2013, a dedicated group of residents, the Albany Community Trust, and The Genny team—Emily, Kit, and Jana—came together to bring it back to life. Now fully redesigned and redeveloped, the store blends historic charm with modern sustainability, creating an environmentally friendly hub for the community.
